On an analog tachograph disc, a full revolution of the wax-coated surface takes about 24 hours. As a result, when discs approach the end of their journey, they must be replaced manually; otherwise, the machine would continue to draw lines according to the initial trace.
Drivers may forget to insert analog tachograph discs and switch with other drivers, or they may just construct information on an auxiliary chart to make it appear as if the other driver is taking over, a practice known as 'ghosting.'
